Algonquin Park

Algonquin park is just north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is Canada's third largest park covering more than 7700 square kilometres, with more than 1500 lakes and over 1200 km of rivers.

When we think of being in the outdoors we somehow are transported to this park ... with two backpacks full of gear and a canoe we travel off the beaten path into the depths of this place. The experience of traveling by canoe through lakes and rivers of the Canadian Shield is like no other ... the distant cries of the loons, the splash of the paddle as it cuts through the cool lake waters, and the ripples of water as you look back at the portage that brought you into this world.

There is also a easier way to enjoy this place ... from your car. There are numerous campgrounds along the highway corridor for those less adventurous travelers. The forests, lakes, and rivers are still accessible from the highway.

No matter what method you choose to travel through Algonquin Park you will walk away with a feeling of tranquility.

Bay of Fundy

The Bay of Fundy is easily one of the most fascinating places in Canada. Bounded by New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on the East Coast of Canada, the Bay is famous for its incredibly high (and low) tides - sometimes as much as 15 m difference between high and low tide.  The geology alone of this area could keep a photographer busy for months. And the wildlife - seals, puffins, whales, and so much more.

If you go, make sure to learn a little about the geology of the area - you will appreciate the views that much more. Spend some time on Grand Manan Island if you enjoy wildlife and scenery - you can camp on the cliffs and watch the tides go in and out, go whale watching, or take the tour to Machias Seal Island to see the puffins.

The Niagara Escarpment

The Niagara Escarpment is a bedrock cliff which extends for more than 700 km across Ontario; from Tobermory in the north, all the way south to Niagara Falls. In some sections, the cliff is several hundred metres high. The Escarpment contains some of the most beautiful scenery in Ontario.  Of particular note are the many very scenic waterfalls to see, such as Inglis Falls, DeCew Falls, and Eugenia Falls, to name a few.
